The beautiful pecan tree from which the idea for the Pixie Treehouse originated was located on the family's farm where I grew up.  The tree was huge with a diameter of 4 feet.  We calculated it to be about 165 years of age.  The annual yield of pecans from this one tree averaged approximately 450 pounds!  The tree, of course, was a beautiful creation of God.  I merely mirrored God's creation using fiberglass and eastern red cedar, another of His beautiful creations.

This decorative and whimsical free-standing treehouse stands approximately 9 feet tall with an irregular diameter of approximately 4 feet and weighs about 215 pounds. 

The tree trunk or body is constructed of fiberglass and the paint is incorporated in the gel-coat both inside and out.  The floor is 3/4 inch exterior plywood also glassed in.  Fiberglass was chosen because of its unique properties.  It is an attractive lightweight material that builds strength into almost any finished product.  Pound for pound, fiberglass can be stronger than steel and sheet metals.  Fiberglass is built to last.  It is highly resistant to environmental extremes i.e. salt air, ultraviolet light, extreme temperatures, etc.  Fiberglass parts are gel-coated in their molds.  Gel-coats are much more durable than most paints.  And fiberglass requires very little maintenance--no rust, no painting, no wood rot.

The roof and cupola are constructed of eastern red cedar.  Cedar was chosen for its beauty.  It is highly prized for its aromatic scent and beautiful rose color and also because it is resistant to decay.  Installed in the front gable of the roof is a small window to allow for light.  The roof is also installed with a protective screen barrier to keep out insects.

The door, too, is made of eastern red cedar.  It comes with a screened window.  A channel is provided to allow for the addition of a plexiglass or Lexan window if so desired.  The door hinges are spring loaded; the door stop is a cabinet magnet.  There are door handles on both the inside and outside to allow for easy access.  The door was so designed with your child's safety in mind.  It will easily open from the inside with the slightest push.
